Review of “FAMILY WISDOM FROM THE MONK WHO SOLD HIS FERRARI”

Nothing is more important to caring parents than to see their children grow into a responsible citizen. There are numerous books which deal with nurturing the child into a responsible adult. Some of them are written by doctors, some by educationist while others are written by psychologist. Family Wisdom is also a book which deals with above mentioned subject.
Family Wisdom is partly an inspirational novel, partly novel like, and a wholly self help book. This novel is written by Robin Sharma (the author of The Monk who Sold his Ferrari). This novel also falls under the genre of self help book.
This novel is about a successful business woman by the name of Catherine. She has accomplished many things in her professional life. But, her family life was in a mess. However, all this changed when she had an accident and she met her brother, Julian Mantle (the monk who sold his Ferrari). He advised her little sister on how to conduct her life. This is main plot of the novel. A very typical Robin Sharma’s style.
The novel is a sequel to the book “The monk who sold his Ferrari.” There are many lines which are repeated here in this novel that you must have find in the other novels of Robin Sharma. However, there is certain freshness in the repetition also. This is a wonderful thing about the writing of Robin Sharma.
The novel suggests us the strategies to become better parents.   There are five important masteries to be great parents. These five masteries form the core of the novel. They are:-
1.  Leadership in life begins with leadership at home
2.  Shift from scolding the child to molding the leader.
3.  Focus your child on greatness, not weakness
4.  To be an excellent parent, become an excellent person
5.  Give your child immortality through the gift of a legacy.
This novel also contains the wisdom of how to conduct ourselves as a parent. The line “You are the author of your child destiny” suggests the importance of parent in the development of child. Many other important counsels have also been preached by Julian Mantle to her sister.

There are many books that exhort us on how to bring up our child. This book is different in one than one ways. First it teaches us to make your child develop as a leader. It contains some of the most practical and easy ways to bring up your future leaders. Secondly, it contains a lot of wisdom like “your job as a parent is to cultivate the special strengths and top talents of your children so that they shine as people and make the difference that they are here to make.”
The book not only advise you the ways to be a better parent it also pay tribute to parents through the following lines” All those fathers and mothers who takes the time to read to their children after a long day at work and a busy night doing chores are heroes in a sense”.
When you go through the book you will feel like you had just walk through the strong room of wisdom. It contains wise quotes like
“Suffering in life is really nothing more than the difference between the way things are and the way you imagine they should be.”
        Or
“On the other side of fear lies freedom”
Like most of the other self help book the language are simple yet very effective. You will wonder at the masterful ability of Robin Sharma to strike your heart with his simple word. His word arose in us something unusual. The words move us to action.
Thus the book is basically an instruction on how to nurture your child into a beautiful and successful person. The languages used are simple yet very effective. It is one of those books that caring, loving parents must have.  Though not a complete guide on how to bring up your child wonder kid, it will definitely open the ways to be a better parent and a better person. I will give it 6 out of 10
